Dear Friends,
I know many of you have been following the events happening in Mexico since our team left Memphis for our work in Ometepec. Please let me assure you that the lack of updates on this site have more to do with the inability of our technology to update this site than with our condition. ALL of our team are healthy, working as planned, and I feel doing a great work with the Amusgo people. I do however, want to update you on our situation.
First, we are all aware of the Swine Flu outbreak to our north in Mexico City. We are monitoring the events as they progress and trying to listen to the guidance of the medical staff on our team, the wisdom of the infectious disease physicians back in Memphis, and the updates from the Centers for disease control. At this point all are in agreement that we are a a very low risk for contracting the disease and we continue as planned. We will adjust as need be. Certainly we are doing our due diligence to insure the safety and security of our team. So we feel we are okay for now. There are no reported cases of Swine Flu infection in our area as of now. I have instructed our students to not kiss any pigs exhibiting flu like symptoms!!!!!! :=) So far they are complying!
As for the earthquake, we felt the ground and building shake in our clinic, but we had little if any damage. We just created and very interesting memory.
Now today in Mexico, I fully expect an alien invasion or an asteroid strike. That would be about par for the course on this trip. Barring that happening, I am looking forward to another day of clinic. Our students and staff are working well in less than desirable conditions and you would be very proud of them as am I.
Please continue to pray for hour health, our safety, and our safe travels. We all want to get home on Thursday night and considering the present panic griping the world, that may become difficult. Let us all covenant to trust God more, do what we can, and move faithfully toward a measured and responsible response to our present world conditions. To do any less would deny the faith that we know in all things God is present.

UPDATE!!
Friends,
We are in Acapulco and about to head for the airport. We are all praying that we can make the transition back into the U.S. with little difficulty. We are ALL aware of the anxiety gripping our country and we are emotionnally and mentally preparing to feel some of that when we arrive and persons realize where we have been. ALL OF US, are HEALTHY, excited to be heading home, and hoping to sleep in our own beds tonight. We will be glad to hug you all if you will us. We believe we have been isolated enough that we are at a very low risk level for contracting the disease. Rest assured we have done and are doing all we can to minimize that possibility.
Please continue to pray for us as we travel today.
Blessings, David (April 30, 2009, 9:25 a.m.)
